FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
The Crean Hill Gun Club was formed in 1965 by employees working at INCO`s Crean Hill Mine.
The club was given use of an INCO gravel pit near the mine and remained there until 1967. At that time the membership purchased its own property on Grassy Lake Road in the Township of Louise. In 1978, with the assistance of Wintario funding, the club purchased a 160 acre parcel of land in Drury Township. About 20 years ago a 20 acre parcel was sold back to INCO for their purpose of installing transmission lines.
In the fall of 2015 a new range was constructed. The current 140 acre property has one indoor range and 3 outdoor ranges. The 4 ranges are: Range #1 - the indoor range, 11 x 25 yards, range # 2 - 100/200 yard rifle range, range # 3 – the 25/50 rifle/pistol range, and range # 4 - the action range, 20 x 10 yards. The 100/200 yard and the 25/50 yard ranges each have a shooting house with stove, removable windows, shooting benches/tables and chairs. Outdoor ranges #2 and #3 are plowed during the winter and are fully accessible year round.
The clubhouse has full kitchen facilities, a meeting room, hot and cold running water and separate indoor washrooms.
The club's 25 yard heated indoor range with an electric target retrieval system is the most modern facility in the North allowing for shooting year-round.
